A New York City Christmas

On a cold December morning, I trekked out to Rockefeller Plaza to photograph the iconic annual Christmas tree. The early start meant I almost had the whole place to myself, but regardless, was able to carve out a few compositions void of the usual crowds that fill this space once the sun is up. Manhattan, NY

Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass

After photographing the piers at Brooklyn Bridge Park, we scooted over to Washington Street to catch a glimpse of one of the towers of the Manhattan Bridge in the DUMBO area of the borough. A clear night provided a perfect opportunity to stand in oncoming traffic and try a few long exposures to capture the tower (as well as the Empire State Building framed underneath the bridge deck). The Lower Passage

The Bethesda Terrace Arcade is a tunnel within Central Park which takes you from The Mall to the fountain at Bethesda Terrace. While venturing into the middle of the park alone at 5am may not have been the best idea, it was an incredible experience to move freely and photograph this location without worrying about crowds moving through the scene. The World Trade Centre Transit Hub (aka "The Oculus") connects numerous routes and sits right next to the rebuilt WTC plaza. The interlocking ribs of the building create some amazing compositions highlighting the many architectural features of this building.

72nd Street Station

We arrived at this station just before sunset, and quickly took a seat and set up the tripod. We had a nice older gentleman playing saxophone for most of the shoot, which added to the calm ambience as the sun went down, and the lights of city began to emerge. New York City, NY
